At Silver Gully we produce biologically sustainable, top quality beef packages. Originally, we aimed to produce enough beef to enable our family to become self sufficient, while teaching our children the values of a country lifestyle. This simple notion has taken on a life of its own in recent years as we have expanded our production and sales. Now, we are pleased to be able to offer premium meat packages for sale direct to the public.

Silver Gully is a biologically sustainable family farm on the NSW Central Coast. This means minimal use of artificial pesticides/herbicides and fertilizers due to rotational grazing to reduce the burden of weeds, worms and disease. The quality of our final product reflects this, with limited chemical or hormonal interference that can be found in the supermarket.

We breed and grow our own steers from registered Square Meater stud stock. We organise the transport to the abattoir and to the local butcher for dressing and packaging. The animals are presold prior to slaughter, and often collected directly from the butcher.

The Square Meater breed is well established across Australia, and has its genetic origins in the first truly Australian breed, Murray Greys. The breed has experienced much success in steer and carcass competitions in recent years, cumulating in a top 4 finish in the prestigious Stanhill Trophy team at the 2009 Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The demand for our grass fed beef, raised in a biologically sustainable way, often outstrips supply. As our farm is still family owned and run in a biologically sustainable fashion, it is often not possible to supply meat packages all year round. Usually, our main meat sales will occur in March and October.

Meat packages are sold on a quarter-carcass basis at a rate of $12 per kilo. This will include all cuts of meat at a flat rate: sirloin, eye fillet, T-bone, blade, roasts, silverside, mince and sausages. Generally, this is around 30kg, depending upon the size of the particular animal. On average, a 30kg package priced at $360 will last a family of four 3-5 months. Smaller families and couples often choose to split the package into two lots between themselves and another family/couple.
